The Padma Organization
Offering opportunity for the people of Nepal
Welcome to the Padma Organization, where the abundance and generosity of America provides opportunity to the impoverished and orphaned in the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal. In the Tibetan and Sanskrit languages, "padma" means "lotus", and just as the lotus arises from muddy, stagnant ponds to bloom in splendid color, so too does the human spirit transform from a state of confusion and ignorance to one of enlightenment. Acting from these ideals, our mission at Padma is to find and support long-term service projects, designed and implemented by the people of Nepal. Nepal is rich in intelligent, educated, and compassionate people; however, as one of the 10 poorest countries in the world, Nepal desperately lacks the financial capabilities to achieve stability and growth. In response to such needs, Padma was created in 2006 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, through the diligent efforts of Luke Hanley and Anjit Bista, and today it sponsors three different projects located within the Kathmandu valley - Ngoedrup Charbeb Ling Nunnery, a school sponsorship program and Optimistic Children and Youth Home of Nepal.
