The Padma Organization :: Tibetan Refugee School Sponsorship

This project of Padma's provides resources to benefit Tibetan refugees living in and around Katmandu. Padma is working not in conjunction with another organization, but instead closely with leaders of the Tibetan community in Nepal such as Tsering Sangpo. Sangpo is a Tibetan refugee who escaped with his family from Tibet over 20 years ago and now lives in Boudhanath, Nepal. He teaches Tibetan grammar to young monks at the Ka Nying Shedrup Ling Monastery. As an elder in his community, he is also dedicated to finding support and resources for Tibetan families struggling to survive. Many Tibetan families find enough work to rent a small room and eat but sending their children to school is financially beyond reach. Sangpo particularly tries to help families with children who have disabilities. One such child named Tenzin was barely able to walk or speak at age 8. After six months in a special school his improvement was astonishing. Sadly, when the family could no longer afford tuition, Tenzin wasn't able attend the school anymore. Since hearing Tenzin's story, Padma was able to find a sponsor for him to return to school. Such situations and stories represent just a fraction of those in need within the Tibetan community. Sponsoring a Tibetan Refugee child costs $30 per month and covers the cost of school and school supplies including uniforms and daily lunch.
